There are all sorts of ways to cook bacon. You can fry it, microwave it, air fry it….but there’s one awesome way you have to try, and it involves an oven.

Cooking bacon in the oven is a great idea for many reasons. First, it’s healthier, because the grease drips right off of it, you can cook larger amounts at the same time, and there are no grease splatters.

On the weekends we love making a large breakfast. It’s the one time we all get to sit down as a family and enjoy a home cooked meal while chatting about our week. We used to cook our bacon on the stovetop but have discovered this new way of cooking bacon in the oven and never went back. Once you try it you’ll do the same.

Uses for Bacon Grease

Don’t throw out that bacon fat!

Bacon grease is one of the best and most versatile cooking ingredients around. I often use it while sautéing onions. While it’s extremely tasty to consume, it also has a number of different uses around the house and such. Here are some creative ways to use up bacon fat!

  • Season cast iron pans!
  • Make candles!
  • Fry up eggs!
  • Sauté veggies!
  • Shine your shoes!
  • Use as a petroleum jelly!
  • Remove a splinter!
  • Grease a squeaky hinge!

  • Crumble on top of salads!
  • BLT sandwiches!
  • Topping for burgers!
  • Mix it in with mashed potatoes!
  • Pair it with your favorite breakfast food!

Tips for Perfectly Cooked Bacon Every Time

  • Not all bacon is the same. Thickness does matter and will require different cook times.
  • Don’t forget the baking sheet liner! Foil or parchment paper with make an easy clean up and a way for the bacon grease to catch on.
  • For crispier bacon, place an oven safe wire rack on top of a baking sheet with foil underneath. Lay bacon in a single layer on top of rack and cook.
  • Don’t flip it! That’s the beauty of cooking bacon in the oven. No need to flip halfway and cooks even every time.

How to Cook Bacon in the Oven

Preheat oven to 350 F degrees.

Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.

Lay uncooked bacon in a single layer on top of the foil or parchment paper.

Cook according to times listed below. For more crispy bacon, cook a little bit longer.

Once cooked, take baking sheet out of oven and blot bacon with a paper towel to remove access grease.

Serve immediately.

Storing & Reheating

  • To Store: Allow to cool completely and place in a ziplock bag in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • To Reheat: Place desired amount on a microwave safe plate and heat with a paper towel over top to desired temperature.
