There may come a time in your Keto diet journey, where you want to break a stall. Even though you may be eating healthy and doing everything you can, sometimes a weight loss stall happens, where you can’t lose weight. This can be hard, but there are ways to help your body break this stall.
What is the Egg Fast?
In simple terms, this is a temporary way of eating to lose weight quickly or to break a stall. You can only eat eggs, cheese, and butter (or an alternative healthy fat). The egg fast is good to stay on for 3-5 days and not meant to do long term. However, some people have been known to be on the Egg Fast for a whole week straight.
What to Eat on the Egg Fast
Just like any other diet out there, different variations exist. Eggs and cheese are mostly what you will eat, while on this fast. You can also eat 1 teaspoon of butter or a healthy fat per egg that you eat. As soon as you wake up, you should eat one egg, at least within 30 minutes.
Fewer Cravings for Sugar and Carbs
The Western diet is chock full of sugar and carbs. In some instances, the Egg Fast can help you reduce the toxins in your body from years of bad eating. Since the egg fast only allows you to have certain things to eat, it greatly reduces your cravings for sugar and carbs. For most people, this is a good thing, because it results in weight loss.
Egg Fast & The Keto Diet
Most people who are eating a low carb or Keto diet might find themselves interested in the egg fast. This is a fast that doesn’t require a lot of carbs. After the 3 Day Egg Fast, continue to stay on track with the Keto diet so you don’t gain back the weight you lost.
A lot of times, even on the Keto diet, people are not losing because they’re overeating. It’s super easy to overeat because food is so plentiful. Hold yourself accountable and for the Egg Fast. It’s something that is safe to do for a short period of time. The egg fast can also help you lose weight and break a stall.
My 3 Day Egg Fast Experience and Weight Loss
I’ve been following the Keto diet since April and needed to break a stall. I decided to try the egg fast to see if it would work. The longest I could go was 3 days because frankly I was sick of eating eggs. During those 3 days I was pretty consistent on eating the same foods everyday. I also only drank water, tea or coffee. Below is what I ate for my meals and snacks for the 3 days.
3 Day Egg Fast Meal Plan
- Breakfast (within 30 minutes of waking up) – Hard Boiled Egg
- Lunch – Egg Salad or 2 Hard Boiled Eggs
- Snack – 1 String Cheese
- Dinner – Cheesy Scrambled Eggs or Cheesy Omelette
I was down 2.5 lbs after 3 days. It wasn’t much weight as I thought it would be but it’s better than gaining. Unfortunately the weight is still stalled but I never did gain back that 2.5 lbs so that’s a good thing.
I wouldn’t mind doing the egg fast again but think I would have to mentally prepare myself next time. Plus, I would suggest changing up the meal plan and not eating the same meals for 3 consecutive days. Once you have your mindset, you can give it a go.
