What is Butter Chicken?
Butter chicken is an Indian dish that was made invented by chef Kundan Lal Gujral. It is made of chicken in a buttery creamy tomato sauce with curry flavor mostly used from Garam Masala spice. The secret is in the sauce to get that rich buttery flavor. There are many variations to get the creamy sauce just right such as adding heavy cream, yogurt, etc. and the tomato paste and spices is what gives it that rich orange color.
Is Butter Chicken Spicy?
This recipe for butter chicken is not spicy but you can make it spicy if you want by adding chili powder or jalapenos to your liking.
A Few Tips for Keto Butter Chicken
- To save on time cook and cube the chicken the night before.
- You can use other kinds of chicken if you don’t have chicken breasts on hand such as chicken thighs or shredded chicken.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in microwave.
- You can freeze butter chicken by storing it in a freezer safe container for up to 6 months.
- To make sauce thicker, add a little bit more tomato paste.

Bacon Butter Chicken Ingredients
1 package Uncured Bacon
3 lbs. chicken breasts
1 stick butter
4 cloves garlic, minced
½ small onion, chopped
2 tsp cardamom
2 tsp garam masala
¾ cup chicken broth
2 tbsp lemon juice
½ cup sour cream
2 tsp Italian seasoning
½ cup parmesan cheese
3 tbsp tomato paste
Salt and pepper to taste
Parsley for garnish (optional)
How to Make Bacon Butter Chicken
Cook uncured bacon in a large pan over medium high heat until bacon is crispy. Set bacon aside and leave the grease in pan. Once cooled, cut each bacon piece in half.
Season chicken with salt and pepper and cook in pan with bacon grease over medium heat and sear until cooked on both sides. Set aside and allow to cool. Once cool, cubed chicken into 1 inch pieces.
Add butter, onions, garlic to the same pan with bacon grease and cook until onions are translucent.
Add chicken broth and allow the sauce to slightly reduce. Add bacon and stir. Reduce heat to low. Add sour cream, parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, cardamom, garam masala, lemon juice, tomato paste and combine. Allow the sauce to simmer and reduce slightly.
Add cooked chicken to the sauce and stir to combine. Allow the sauce to thicken slightly before removing it from the stovetop. Serve with cauliflower rice and garnish with fresh parsley.

Ingredients
- 1 package Coleman Natural Uncured Hickory Smoked Bacon
- 3 lbs. chicken breasts
- 1 stick butter
