This Homemade Taco Seasoning is so much healthier without all the added sugars and simple to make with just a few spices from your pantry!
Have you ever started making tacos and went to the pantry to grab a packet of taco seasoning to only find out you were completely out of it? I cannot tell you how many times I have done this and thought that dinner was completely ruined but that’s not the case.
With just a few spices found in your kitchen you can make your own DIY Taco Seasoning. Personally, I like it better than using packets from the store because those contain starches and sugars that are just not good for you. While this recipe is equivalent to 1 taco seasoning packet you can definitely make more and store it in an airtight container at cool room temperature to keep on hand for up to 6 months.
What is in taco seasoning?
Taco seasoning is just fresh spices consisting of chili powder, ground cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, crushed red pepper, paprika and salt when you make your own at home versus what you buy in the store. When you buy a packet or container of taco seasoning in the store and read the ingredients you will find that they add sugars and starches making unhealthy. I prefer homemade over store bought because of this reason. Plus, it’s less expensive to make.
What can you make with homemade taco seasoning?
Believe it or not taco seasoning is not just for tacos. While it’s great in ground beef for tacos on Taco Tuesday night, you can also use it in chicken, pork, shrimp, taco salad, taco bake and more.
