Turkey Leg Cookie Dinner is a fun twist on everyone’s favorite holiday meal but in cookie and candy form.

How cute are these Thanksgiving cookie kits for the kids? This is a fun activity to do with the kids that can be made up ahead of time for them to decorate or make together.

Each cookie kit comes with everything in a traditional Thanksgiving feast including mashed potatoes and gravy with butter, turkey leg, peas and carrots all packed into a 3 compartment container that resembles a TV dinner.

I had so much fun making these turkey dinners and cannot get over at how real they look. These Thanksgiving cookie decorating kits are a fun and creative way to add some sweetness to your Thanksgiving feast and will be a hit at your gathering.

    What You Need

    • Sugar cookie dough: You can either make your own from scratch using your favorite recipe or opt for a pre-made sugar cookie mix for convenience.
    • Buttercream frosting: You can use store bought or homemade buttercream.
    • Starburst
    • Skittles
    • Caramel sauce
    • Turkey leg cookie cutter: There are different shapes to choose from. This is the cookie cutter I got as it was the quickest to arrive but modified the shape of the cookies.
    • 3 compartment container

How to Make Thanksgiving Cookie Dinner

    turkey leg cookie cutter

Make and roll out sugar cookie dough. Using turkey leg cookie cutter cut out turkey leg cookie shapes. I modified the shape of mine after I cut them out and made them skinnier and cut the extra bone off on the sides.

Bake per directions on package or using your favorite sugar cookie recipe and allow to cool.

Place the cooled cookies in the large part of the container.

Using an ice cream scooper, scoop a generous amount of buttercream frosting for the mashed potatoes and place in one of the smaller compartments.

Make a divot in the middle and add caramel sauce to the divot to resemble gravy. Add an unwrapped yellow Starburst on top of caramel sauce to resemble butter.

In the last compartment add a handful of green Skittles to resemble peas. Cut up a few orange Starburst into fours and add on top of Skittles to resemble carrots.

Add lid on top until ready to decorate.

Variations of the Turkey Leg Cookie Dinner

    • You can swap the green Skittles and orange Starburst (peas and carrots) and use yellow Skittles or cut up yellow Starburst to resemble corn.
    • Can also use other candies such as Sixlets, M&M’s or Reese’s Pieces for the peas and carrots.
    • If you don’t have buttercream frosting, you can use any kind of white frosting. The buttercream resembles mashed potatoes the most as it is smoother and creamier.
    • This would also be fun as a Christmas cookie decorating kit with Christmas cookie cut outs frosting and sprinkles in each compartment.

How should I store these turkey leg cookies if I want to make them ahead of time?

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
