    Chicken Parmesan Casserole Ingredients

    • Penne pasta: I used regular penne pasta, but you can also use any short pasta, whole wheat or gluten-free if desired.
    • Chicken: Cooked and shredded. You can use leftover cooked chicken for convenience, a rotisserie chicken or cook and shred your own chicken breasts.
    • Seasoning: Italian seasoning is the only seasoning used but you can add your own favorite seasonings if you’d like. You can also garnish with parsley if you prefer.
    • Cheese: I used a combination of shredded mozzarella and parmesan cheese divided for the mixture and topping. You can use any type of shredded cheese you prefer.
    • Sauce: I used jarred spaghetti sauce for convenience, but you can also make your own from scratch or use marinara sauce.

    How to Make Chicken Parmesan Casserole

    1. Start by preheating your oven to 350°F and grease a 9X13 baking dish with cooking spray. Set aside.
    2. Cook pasta according to directions on box and drain.
    3. In a large bowl, mix cooked chicken, pasta, spaghetti sauce, Italian seasoning, half cup of shredded mozzarella cheese and half cup of shredded parmesan cheese. Mix together until combined.
    4. Spread the mixture in the bottom of prepared baking dish and cover with foil. Bake for 30 minutes.
    5. Remove foil and top it off with the remaining parmesan and mozzarella cheese and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until cheese is melted.
    6. Garnish with parsley (optional) and serve!

    • Skip a step and use a store-bought cooked rotisserie chicken or pre-cooked chicken strips.
    • Make a day in advance to save on time. Assemble, cover and store in the fridge. When ready to bake, allow to sit out for 15 minutes and bake per directions.

    • Switch it up by using different types of cheese like mozzarella or a blend of Italian cheeses.
    • Add in some veggies, such as mushrooms, or broccoli.
    • Use any kind of short pasta you would like.

    • Add Panko breadcrumbs with a drizzle of melted butter for the last 10 minutes of cooking for some crunch.

    • Freezer: Store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to one month. Thaw in the fridge overnight and warm in the oven at 350 degrees.

    Yes, you can definitely use pre-cooked chicken for this casserole. Simply shred or dice the cooked chicken and follow the recipe as directed.

    Ingredients
      

    • 16 oz box of penne pasta
    • 1 pound of cooked chicken shredded
    • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
    • 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese divided
    • 1 cup of shredded Parmesan cheese divided
    • 32 oz of spaghetti sauce
    • Chopped parsley optional

    Instructions
