How to Make a Patriotic Themed Charcuterie Board
- Wash and pat dry fruits and vegetables. Cut up any cheeses, meats and fruits if need be with a knife and some with a star shaped cutter.
- Add any fruits, dips or snacks in small bowls or ramekins.
- Assemble board with large pieces first such as brie cheese and bowls. Arrange the rest of the board around those pieces making sure to group a variety of red, white and blue throughout the board and fill it edge to edge.
- Add some patriotic decorations such as flags, star shaped decor, serving utensils, patriotic silverware and small plates near the board. Serve and enjoy!
Expert Tips
- Use a board that is big enough to fit all the ingredients and amount of guest you’re serving. I love using an oversized cutting board, but there are plenty of other options such as trays, platters, etc.
- Obtain star shaped ingredients such as the watermelon and cheeses by using a small star shaped cookie cutter.
- Use prepacked foods to help save on time.
- Have a variety of foods that everyone loves in the color schemes.
- Build board the day of serving, right before guests arrive to keep it fresh.
FAQs
This is a delicate task to keep the food fresh and from falling off the board while transporting. I would recommend putting the ingredients into containers stored in a cooler and assembling the board upon arrival. If you are not going far, you may be able to assemble the board, wrap tightly in plastic or aluminum foil and place in a large box or container.
To maintain freshness, it is advisable to store leftover ingredients individually, considering their specific storage needs. Here are some guidelines:
Cheese: Ensure cheese is tightly wrapped in plastic wrap or stored in airtight containers when placing it in the refrigerator.
Cured meats: Similar to cheese, cured meats should be sealed in airtight containers or wrapped in plastic wrap before refrigeration.
Fruits: Store fruits in the refrigerator using airtight containers or cover them with plastic wrap to keep them fresh.
Crackers or bread slices: To preserve their crispness, store crackers or bread slices in airtight containers.
