This Malibu Colada is one if the best pina colada recipes out there. Made with coconut rum, pineapple juice and cream of coconut, it’s creamy, delicious and refreshing just like a vacation in a glass!
No matter where I go on vacation, I always have to order a pina colada. There’s something about the creamy, tropical flavors sipping poolside that just can’t be beat. But since I can’t always be on vacation, I’ve learned to make my own pina coladas at home.
You could make my traditional pina colada recipe using any kind of rum, but if you want a more tropical flavor this pina colada with Malibu rum is the one to make.
Serve it frozen to cool off in the summer or to reminisce of a beach getaway when you need it. Make by the pitcher or the glass.

Malibu Pina Colada Ingredients
- Ice Cubes: Use plenty of ice cubes for a thicker consistency or reduce the amount if you prefer a thinner consistency.
- Malibu rum: This will add more of a coconut flavor but you could use any kind of rum you’d like without coconut flavoring.
- Pineapple Juice: Fresh or canned 100% pineapple juice will work for this recipe.
- Cream of Coconut: Make sure to only use cream of coconut and not coconut cream or coconut milk.
- Whipped Cream & Cherry: Used for garnish to add a touch of sweetness. Can omit if you’d prefer.
Recipe Variations
- Add fresh fruit like strawberries or pineapple for a burst of flavor and color.
- You can also experiment with different types of rum or even swap out the coconut cream for a lighter coconut milk.
