    holding a heart cinnamon roll

For this recipe I used store bought cinnamon rolls to save time and make things easier. But, if you have time you can make your own dough and cinnamon rolls from scratch.

    Ingredients

    • Cinnamon rolls: I used Pillsbury Grands cinnamon rolls but you can use any brand or size you’d like.
    • Icing: Use the icing that comes in the tube or you can make your own.
    • Food coloring: I used one drop of red food coloring to get the pink color but you can use pink food coloring instead.
    • Sprinkles: These are optional but make them more festive.

How to Form a Heart Shape with Store Bought Cinnamon Rolls

To start, preheat your oven according to the package instructions.

shaping a cinnamon roll into a heart

To form the heart shapes, gently unroll each cinnamon roll. Take the two ends and roll each of them until they meet together in the center. Pinch the bottom to make a point.

valentine's day cinnamon rolls on a baking sheet

Place your heart-shaped cinnamon rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Make sure to leave enough space between each roll for them to expand as they bake.

Bake according to the package instructions until golden brown. Once they’re out of the oven, let them cool slightly before adding any frosting or toppings.

Add a drop of red food coloring or a few drops of pink food coloring to the icing in the tube and mix together.

Spread the icing on each cinnamon roll, top with sprinkles and enjoy.

    Recipe Variations and Helpful Tips

    • For added flavor, sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on top.
    • For chocolate lovers, drizzle some melted chocolate over top.
    • For those who love some crunch in their rolls, add chopped nuts such as walnuts or pecans along with the cinnamon filling.
    • For convenience use store-bought cinnamon rolls.
    • Preheat the oven according to package instructions and bake on the middle rack for best results.
    • Press firmly when shaping the hearts to ensure they hold their shape during baking.
    • Allow enough space between each roll on the baking sheet so they have room to expand.

    How to Store

Allow to cool and store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat in microwave to desired temperature.

Once your heart-shaped cinnamon rolls are baked, there are endless possibilities for decorating and serving them. You can drizzle pink icing over top, add Valentine’s Day-themed sprinkles and serve on a breakfast charcuterie board.

Can I customize the recipe with different flavors or fillings?

Absolutely! While classic cinnamon filling is always delightful, you can get creative by adding different flavors or fillings. Consider options like chocolate chips, cream cheese filling, or nuts for a unique twist on traditional heart-shaped cinnamon rolls.

These are so cute! I’ve still never made my own cinnamon rolls, but man are they tasty 😋 and these are so pretty and absolutely perfect for Valentine’s Day! Although, if I had it my way, things would be pink and heart-shaped all year ’round 🙌💕
