Learn how to make your own fog juice with this simple and easy to follow tutorial for the best DIY fog juice recipe!

making fog with homemade fog juice

Making fog juice at home is quite easy to do and only requires 2 ingredients plus a container to store it in.

I’ve found that fog juice can run up in price and most don’t produce a good enough fog.

I’ve tested store bought and homemade fog juice and found that the homemade is so much better and cheaper. Plus, it gives off a great effect for Halloween with a nice thick fog, perfect for DIY cemeteries.

Experiment with different ratios till you achieve your desired effect!

    homemade fog juice ingredients

    Fog Juice Ingredients

    • ¼ cup distilled water
    • 6 oz. vegetable glycerin, about ¾ cup

You will also need a good fogger, funnel or measuring cup with spout, clean and empty container.

For the fogger, I recommend one that doesn’t take long to heat up in between spurts of fog. I used this inexpensive fogger with party lights and it worked great for my small yard.

If you are looking for a fogger that produces a lot of fog, try this heavy duty fogger that they also use for smoke training for fire fighters.

    How to Make Fog Juice

The ratio to make fog juice is 3 parts vegetable glycerin to one part distilled water. So for every 6 ounces of vegetable glycerin you would need ¼ distilled water.

Measure out distilled water and vegetable glycerin with a measuring cup. Add to a clean, empty container with lid using a funnel or pouring into container.

Secure lid and shake well to fully mix together. Label the bottle “fog juice” to easily locate it an not mistaken it for something else.

Give it a good shake each time before using in fog machine.

    Tips for Making Fog Juice

    • If you want it thicker add more glycerin.
    • If you want it thinner add more distilled water.
    • Make sure you use distilled water and not regular water. This is VERY Important. Distilled was has all the minerals removed so it will not clog up the fog machine.
    • Test in fog machine and adjust ratios if needed.
    • Don’t leave fog solution in machine till next Halloween. Make sure to empty it out or it could potentially ruin the fog machine.
