The new Smart Points program is a counting system that is incredibly easy to use. It is a revitalization of an old system (Pro Points). Smart Points helps you eat and feel better by pointing out foods that are nutritious and healthier. You’ll also have more energy AND lose weight. Now that’s smart!
How to Follow Weight Watchers Smart Points Program
With Smart Points, values are given according to the sugar and saturated content level. Foods that are higher in sugar and saturated fat are given higher Smart Points values; while foods higher in lean protein are given lower Smart Points values. You are driven towards making the most healthy choices.
- Specific Smart Points values are assigned to every food. An easy-to-use number based on four components: sugar, saturated fat, calories, and protein.
- Protein reduces the amount of Smart Points values that something “costs.”
- Saturated fat and sugar raise the Smart Points values.
How does it work?
As a new member to the Weight Watchers Smart Points program, you are given a personalized Smart Points budget which takes your current height, weight, age and gender into consideration. It is made up of daily allowances, and a weekly allowance you are free to spend on bigger portions or going out. Smart Points values are real easy to track, this is due to the fact that they are whole numbers, and the tools to work them out are provided to you on registration. This makes keeping track easier, and thus you can make choices that are healthier and more satisfying.
Eat in a way that works best for you!
With Weight Watchers, you have the option of counting Smart Points or following their No Count approach. Whatever one you decide on, you are sure to lose weight eating tasty food that is nourishing – the best part is that you can switch between them if you so desire.
If you decide to count Smart Points, you are free to eat whatever you like, with nothing off the menu. Their daily and weekly allowance offer you freedom to eat what you like and lose weight while doing it.
With the No Count system, you receive freedom from tracking and counting everything. You only focus on eating from the list of healthy foods that would be provided, and as long as you adhere to the food on the list, you have no need of counting them. You also get a weekly allowance for other food that isn’t on the list.
Your given allowance may differ on Smart Points. The lowest daily points allowance anyone now receives is 30 SPs, so if you were at less than that on PP, your daily points would be higher. However, if you had a daily points allowance greater than 30, then it may have changed. The other difference is that your weekly points allowance is now customized based on several factors such as age, gender, height, weight and goal. Rather than everyone getting 49 weekly points like on the Points Plus program, on Smart Points, you could get 35, 42, 28 or other multiples of 7 (7 so you can easily share them across the days of the week).

Thank you very much I need the help and it’s hard for me because I’m in my 70s and cook for a family of 6 so it’s hard to watch what I eat.

The calculator that you linked to is for the points plus program not the smart points. Do you have a calculator for that?
