All you need is a few simple ingredients and a few minutes to put it all together. Here is my version of the Grinder Salad. Enjoy!
What is a Grinder Salad?
A popular sub sandwich in New England consisting of a creamy based salad topped with your favorite meats, cheeses and veggies on a toasted hoagie bun. It’s pretty much like an Italian sub but with grinder salad.
Recipe Variations
- Can you romaine lettuce in place of iceberg lettuce.
- Don’t have red wine vinegar? Use balsamic vinegar instead.
- If you don’t like mayo, you can swap it out for miracle whip.
- Can use other kinds of sub buns.
- Can omit red pepper flakes for less spicy.
- Feel free to customize your sandwich with your favorite meats, cheeses and vegetables.
Recipe Tips
- Make sure to cut the lettuce finely and slice the onion and tomatoes thin for best results.
- Toast the bread and melt the cheese before building the sandwich.
- Serve the sandwich fresh. The grinder salad tends to make the bread soggy over time so it’s best to serve it right when you make it.
- This recipe is enough to make 4 Italian grinders sandwiches. If you are serving more, double or triple this recipe.
