    Why You’ll Love This Recipe

    • A Family Favorite – this classic dish will be a hit with the whole family and easy to serve a crowd.
    • Quick & Easy Dish – no need to do prep work, just assemble and bake.
    • Customizable – so many ways you can customize this recipe to your liking from the cheeses, toppings and more.

    What You Need

    • Hot dogs – any brand of hot dog will work.
    • Hot dog buns – use a thick and sturdy bun that can hold together all the toppings.
    • Shredded cheese – I used mild cheddar but feel free to use your favorite cheese.
    • Sliced cheese – mild cheddar was used but you can use any kind of cheese you’d like.
    • Canned chili – use your favorite brand of canned chili.
    • Diced onions – these are optional.

How to Make Chili Cheese Dogs in the Oven

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
    2. Prepare a 9X13 baking dish with cooking spray.
    3. Arrange 6 hot dogs buns in the bottom of the baking dish.
    4. Open the buns slightly and add a slice of cheese to each bun.
    5. Add a hot dog on top of each slice of cheese.
    6. Add chili on top of hot dog.
    7. Add shredded cheese.
    8. Add diced onions.
    9. Bake in oven for about 10 -15 minutes.
    10. Let stand for about 5 minutes.
    11. Use a spatula to remove and serve with tater tots, french fries or your favorite side dishes.

    Variations

    • Change up the toppings – You can add as little or as much toppings to this recipe. Some like to add the basics of ketchup, mustard and relish but you could also add others like mushrooms.
    • Swap out cheeses – You could easily swap out shredded cheese for nacho cheese sauce. For the sliced cheese, you can omit or use another flavor of cheese.
    • Make it spicy – If you like some heat to your chili dogs, add some slice jalapenos, banana peppers or hot sauce on top.
