    What is a Moscow Mule?

A Moscow Mule is a refreshing cocktail made with vodka, ginger beer, and lime juice. It’s often served in a copper mug, which helps keep the drink cold and gives it a bit of extra flair.

The History of the Moscow Mule

The Moscow mule is a classic cocktail that has been around for decades.

While the exact origins of the Moscow mule are unknown, it is believed to have originated in the 1940s. The most popular story of its creation involves John G. Martin of Smirnoff and Jack Morgan of the Cock ‘n’ Bull restaurant in Hollywood.

Martin was looking for a way to increase sales of Smirnoff vodka in the United States, and Morgan was looking for a way to promote his new ginger beer. The two men came up with the idea of combining the two products to create a refreshing drink.

The Moscow mule quickly became a hit, and its popularity has only grown over the years.

    What You Will Need

    • Vodka: We recommend using a good quality vodka, like Grey Goose or Ketel One.
    • Lime Juice: use fresh-squeezed lime juice – it makes all the difference
    • Cranberry Juice: gives it the perfect balance of sweet and tart.
    • Ginger Beer: we recommend Fever Tree or Gosling’s
    • Lime Wedge: add for garnish.
    • Cranberries: add a few in the cocktail for garnish.
    • Rosemary Sprig: gives it a festival look.
    • Ice cubes

How to Make a Christmas Moscow Mule

    1. Fill a copper mug or glass with ice cubes. Add vodka and lime juice and stir well.
    2. Top off with ginger beer, stirring gently to combine.
    3. Garnish, serve and enjoy!

How to Garnish a Holiday Mule

While the signature copper mug is definitely part of the appeal, it’s the garnish that really makes this drink stand out. There are a few different ways you can garnish your Moscow Mule, depending on what you have on hand.

    • One of the simplest and most popular options is to simply add a sprig of fresh rosemary to the drink. This herb not only looks beautiful, but also adds a nice touch of flavor.
    • If you want something a little sweeter, you could try adding a candy cane or some freshly grated nutmeg.
    • For something truly unique, try garnishing your mule with a slice of fresh ginger root.
