    This Baked Mac and Cheese is the ultimate comfort food! Macaroni smothered in a creamy cheese sauce and topped with breadcrumbs for a crowd favorite!

    My kids could literally eat mac and cheese every single day so sometimes I need to switch it up and make it different such as these baked mac and cheese recipe. So creamy, delicious and easy to throw together. Pair it with a salad or coleslaw, vegetable, garlic bread or potatoes and dinner is served!

    Homemade Mac n Cheese is by far the best ever! It just taste so much better than boxed macaroni and cheese. While it may take a little bit more longer to make, it’s so worth it.

    Recipe Tips & Variations

    • Add more cheese or different variations of cheese if you want it cheesier.
    • Can use a block of cheddar cheese and grate it with a grater.
    • Don’t overbake! Over baking will make the mac and cheese dry so be sure to take it out once it’s bubbling, hot and browned.
    • Store any remaining leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.

    How to Reheat Baked Mac and Cheese

    The best way to reheat baked mac and cheese is by oven or microwave.

    For oven: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Place the amount of mac and cheese you’re going to use in an oven safe dish, add a splash of milk, cover with foil and cook for about 20 minutes or until hot.

    For microwave: Take the amount out that you’re going to use and put it on a microwave safe dish and heat until warm. May need to add a splash of milk to make it creamy again.

    Best Cheeses for Baked Mac and Cheese

    For this recipe we used shredded cheddar cheese but you could also use other cheeses as well. Sharp cheddar is a good one to use along with Parmesan,

    Baked Mac and Cheese Toppings

    The most popular topping for baked mac n cheese is breadcrumbs but others toppings such as bacon, crackers, and more cheese are also good toppings to add to the recipe.

    Ingredients

    8 oz. macaroni
    1 tsp butter
    1 tsp salt
    1 tsp ground mustard
    1 egg beaten
    3 cups shredded sharp cheese
    1 cup milk
    1 tbsp hot water
    Breadcrumbs (0ptional)

    How to Make Baked Mac and Cheese

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

    Bring water to a boil, add macaroni and cook per package directions. Drain and return back to pot. Stir in butter and beaten egg.

    Mix salt and mustard in 1 tablespoon hot water and add to milk. Add cheese, reserving enough to sprinkle on top.

    Pour the macaroni mixture into a buttered casserole dish. Add the milk mixture and sprinkle with reserved cheese and breadcrumb topping. Bake uncovered for about 30 minutes or until the top bubbly and golden brown. Serve immediately!
