Dress up your morning with these flavorful eggs. You can make it over easy, sunny side up, etc. The perfect way to flavor your eggs in a whole new way.

Pesto chicken is delicious, and you might have even tried pesto with pasta. But eggs are not the first thing that comes to mind when pairing with this bright green sauce. But, it will elevate the flavor and leave you wanting one more bite of your breakfast eggs.

    What is Pesto?

Pesto is a thick and brightly green colored sauce. Pesto is made with fresh herbs, nuts, oil, and other ingredients. Depending on the recipe it can be made with almonds, pistachios, walnuts, etc. So the flavors are earthy and nutty, and compliment many recipes nicely.

    Ingredients Needed

Pesto – You can make homemade or buy store bought pesto.

    Eggs

Red Pepper Flakes – Optional for a spicy factor.

How to Cook Eggs In Skillet

Here are a few ways that you can cook your eggs with the pesto. Now if you already know how you like your eggs, go for it. But if you are a beginner this might come in handy.

Sunny Side Up – The white of the egg is set and cooked while the yolk is bright in color and very soft. So when you cut into it the yolk oozes. You will cook over medium low heat for 2-3 minutes with a lid on. Once the white of the egg is cooked it is ready.

Medium Eggs – For a medium egg you will cook the same as the sunny side up, but flip at the 2-3 minute mark. And then cook for another 1-2 minutes. Then remove the egg. It will be partially soft in the yolk, but more firm.

Over Hard – This means the yolk is fully cooked and set. Cook with a lid on for 3-4 minutes. Then flip the egg over carefully and cook for another 2-3 minutes or until the egg is fully cooked.

    Tips For Success

    • Ensure you are using medium low to medium heat. Any higher you can burn the pesto and the egg.
    • Allow the pesto to cook for 1-2 minutes in the pan, then add in the egg.
    • I like to make a circle with the pesto and then drop the egg on top. That way the egg and pesto kind of stick as it cooks.
    • Using a nonstick pan will allow for an easy flip and removal of the egg.
