Don’t let stale bread go to waste! Instead make some Air Fryer Croutons. They go nicely in a salad, over tomato soup, in scrambled eggs and more.

    Air Fryer Croutons

This recipe could not be any simpler and is quickly done using an air fryer. For this recipe I used the Ninja Foodi air fryer or any air fryer that you have. Using an air fryer will cut down the cooking time and tastes better too.

Do homemade croutons need to be refrigerated?

No, homemade croutons do not need to be refrigerated. They can be stored in an air tight bag or container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Or you can freeze them in an air tight container for 2 weeks.

What kind of bread should I use to make croutons?

Stale bread is the best to use and any type of brand of bread will work. Regular sandwich bread will take the shortest time to make while thicker breads will require longer time to make. You may need to add a few extra minutes on cooking time but be sure to watch so they don’t burn.

    Ingredients

Serves 6 per Half Loaf of Bread

½ loaf of stale sandwich bread
    ¼ tsp garlic powder
    ¼ tsp sea salt
    3 tbsp olive oil
    1 ½ tsp Italian seasoning

How to Make Air Fryer Croutons

Cut bread into half inch cubes and place in a large bowl.

Add garlic powder, sea salt and Italian seasoning to the bowl. Drizzle olive oil over the bread and mix all together until the bread is evenly coated.

    croutons in the air fryer

Set air fryer to 400 degrees F and place seasoned bread cubes in the air fryer basket. Set timer for 5 minutes. Shake the basket at 2 ½ minutes. You may need to cook an additional 2 minutes if not crispy enough but be sure to watch or they will burn.

Let cool and serve with your favorite salad. Store remaining croutons in a air tight bag or container for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 2 weeks.

Note: Over time the croutons will get harder and cruncher.
