    Making Snowman Sugar Cookies is a fun tradition to do with the kids. Not only are they adorable, but they also taste delicious!

    The soft and buttery sugar cookie dough is the perfect base for decorating with cookie icing and creating cute snowmen faces. This recipe is easy to follow and can be customized with different colors and decorations.

    Snowman Sugar Cookie Ingredients

    • Sugar
    • Margarine (do not use butter)
    • Eggs
    • Baking soda
    • Baking powder
    • Salt
    • Vanilla
    • Flour
    • Mini chocolate chips
    • Red cookie icing
    • Green cookie icing
    • Red and green mini M&M’s
    • Reese’s peanut butter cup minis
    • Orange sprinkles (jimmies work best)

    How to Make Snowman Sugar Cookies

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

    In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar using a mixer until light and fluffy.

    Add ingredients in this order; Beat in the eggs, baking soda, baking powder, salt and vanilla extract until well combined.

    Then slowly add in the flour while mixing until a smooth dough forms. Cover and chill in fridge for 30 minutes.

    Make 3 dough balls; large, medium and small and place from small to large about ½ inch apart.

    Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until they’re lightly golden around the edges.

    When the cookies are done, let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes. While the cookies are still warm and soft place the mini chocolate chips for eyes, an orange sprinkle for the nose and a mini peanut butter cup slightly slanted on the snowman head.

    Add the red and green M&M’s for the buttons down the middles. Carefully transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.

    Once cooled, add the scarf to each snowman using the cookie icing. Allow icing to harden and enjoy.

    Helpful Tips and Variations

    • Save time by using premade sugar cookie dough.
    • Make sure cookies are completely cooled before adding the cookie icing but slightly cooled when adding the eyes, buttons, nose and hat.
    • Can frost the entire cookie and decorate if you’d like.
    • Make sure the dough balls are 3 different size and spaced about a half inch apart.

    How to Store

    Store cookies at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 5 days or place in fridge for longer.

    Yes you can make the cookie dough in advance and store in the fridge for up to 2 days. Make sure to wrap it tightly with plastic wrap or place in an airtight container.

    Can I freeze snowman sugar cookies?

    Absolutely! Place the fully cooled cookies in a freezer-safe container or bag, separating each layer with wax paper. They can be frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw them at room temperature before decorating or serving.
