twizzler sparkler cakeThis Twizzler sparkler cake recipe is the mother load of all cakes. It’s definitely unique and would be the talk of the party. Twizzlers are my favorite candy and if I can use them in a recipe anytime makes me happy. The red, white and blue theme scream patriotic making it a great 4th of July dessert or Memorial Day dessert.

    sparkler cake

A cake this extravagant looks difficult to make but I promise you it’s easier than you think. The secret is made with boxed cake mix and premade frosting which are both timer savers. You can always make both of these homemade if you wish but will take a bit more time to make. You and your guests will love how it tastes that you may get recipe requests before the leave. Enjoy!

    Directions for Cake

Mix boxed cake mix per ingredients and directions on box.

Pour the cake batter into two 8 inch round cake pans evenly.

Bake cake per directions on box and let cool.

When the cakes are cooled, stack cakes on top of each other to construct a 2 layer cake. (May need to level the bottom cake piece for ease of stacking.)

    Directions for Cake Decorating

Frost entire cake with the containers of white frosting. (does not have to look smooth, as this will be covered later)

twizzlers and cake twizzlers around a cake

Carefully place half size Twizzlers standing up all around perimeter of the cake, gently pushing them in to the frosting.

Add a good amount of red, white, and blue sprinkles on the top of cake.

Add the red, white, and blue ribbon around the cake.  (I braided 3 ribbons together and wrapped it around, tying it in a bow)

Melt red candy wafers in the microwave 30 seconds at a time until melted and stir.

Dip 3 jumbo marshmallows in melted red candy melt wafers until covered and let cool. (one side can be uncovered since it will rest on the cake top)

Dip 3 skinny pretzel sticks in melted chocolate and let cool.

Insert the chocolate pretzel sticks into the top of each red marshmallow to create firecrackers.

Place the marshmallows with pretzel sticks on top of cake.

Insert 1 sparkler standing up into each marshmallow.

When it’s time to present the cake quickly light all 3 sparklers, stand back, and enjoy the show!

When you’re ready to slice the cake, unwrap the ribbon, cut in between Twizzlers and enjoy the yummy cake!

Note: You may have to discard the pretzels and/or marshmallows after if some soot gets on them or if they burn from the sparklers.  I did not find a lot of soot dropping on mine, however, I did notice they got crispy.
