What does hibachi cooking mean?
Hibachi is said to date back to Japan, many years back. It is their way of cooking meat and vegetables on a very high heat griddle. So for this recipe I used a flat top grill for a large cooking top.
Ingredients Needed
- Chicken – Make sure to use boneless and skinless chicken for this recipe.
- Steak – The steak needs to be thin, as it will cook fast, and if it is thick it offers a chewy texture.
- Shrimp – Reach for peeled and deveined shrimp so it is easy to just toss right into the hibachi dish.
- Butter
- Soy Sauce and Yum Yum Sauce – The yum yum is optional for seasoning the dish once it is done being cooked.
- Eggs
- Vegetables – So for the vegetables you can use any of your favorite veggies. Broccoli, mushrooms, peppers, zucchini all work.
How to Make Hibachi Dinner
Step One: Start by heating up your flat top grill. Once warm add your butter and let it melt.
Step Two: Toss on the chicken, steak and shrimp. Cook until all the meat is cooked through. I like to add the shrimp after the steak and shrimp has cooked a bit.
Step Three: Push the meats to the side once cooked. Then heat up the flat top with oil.
Step Four: Add on your cooked rice, and veggies and cook. Add on the soy sauce, and mix in the egg to create a scrambled egg.
Step Five: Once cooked add your protein back into the fried rice. Drizzle on yum yum sauce or even more soy sauce.
Tips For Success and Variations
- You are welcome to cook one type of meat or do all three. Just aim for small bite-size pieces.
- If you want you can use cauliflower rice in replace of white rice to help lower the carbs.
- Make sure the meat is fully cooked through before you fry up the rice.
- If you don’t have a flattop grill you can use an indoor grill, or cook on a skillet over medium high heat.
- Use low sodium soy sauce if you are worried about the sodium intake.
Storing Leftovers
You will want to put your rice and the meats and veggies into an airtight container. Store in the fridge for 2-3 days. Then reheat in the microwave or skillet on the stove.
