These Easy Meatball Subs are simple to prepare with frozen meatballs, marinara sauce, cheese and seasonings. It’s the perfect weeknight meal for busy nights!

When nights get busy I like to turn to premade options like these submarine style sandwiches. Using precooked meatballs saves so much time and skips the steps of making them homemade.

It gets dinner on the table quickly and just in time before everyone is hangry. All you need is store bought frozen meatballs, store bought marinara, shredded cheese, seasoning and hoagie rolls. Serve the subs alongside a Caesar salad for a complete meal.

    Meatball Subs Ingredients & Substitutions

    • Meatballs: I used Italian frozen meatballs for this recipe but you could use any flavor or homemade meatballs.
    • Cheese: Shredded Italian cheese is what I used but provolone or mozzarella would be good also. You could also use slices of cheese instead of shredded.
    • Sauce: Traditional marinara sauce is what I used but any pasta sauce will work.
    • Seasoning: I sprinkles the tops of the subs with fresh basil to keep the Italian flavor but you can use any kind of seasonings you’d like.
    • Buns: Hoagie buns or any of your favorite sub buns.

How to Make Easy Meatball Subs

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

meatballs and sauce in a pan

Add frozen meatballs and marinara to a large pan and simmer for about 10-15 minutes or until cooked through.

Bake for 10-15 minutes or until cheese is melted. Can also broil for 2-4 minutes.

    Serve warm and enjoy!

    Helpful Tips and Variations

    • Use different kinds of meatballs to switch up the flavor.
    • Any size frozen meatballs will work.
    • Any kind of cheese will work with meatball subs.
    • Swap marinara with your favorite pasta sauce or spaghetti sauce.
    • Add some heat with red pepper flakes.
    • You can use other kinds of buns such as the top slice hot dog buns from Pepperidge Farm or sub rolls.
    • You can also use a slow cooker to cook the meatballs and sauce if you’d like.
    • Adjust the ingredients to your liking.
    • If you want to make these for a party, double or triple the recipe.
