It’s that time of year again to start thinking about Christmas and all the festivities that go with it. One of my favorite parts is making a batch of Christmas Cracker Candy aka Christmas Crack because it’s just that good.

    Christmas Cracker Candy

    Why You’ll Love This Recipe

    • Best homemade Christmas gift idea!
    • Easy to make in just 15 minutes!
    • Has a delicious taste that everyone loves!

How to Make Christmas Cracker Candy

    Tips & Variations

    • Can use Club, Ritz or Graham crackers in place of saltine crackers.
    • Dark or white chocolate can also be used in place of semi-sweet chocolate chips for a different taste.
    • Change up the toppings from Red and Green M&M’s that I used to one of the following below.
    • Mix it up and do half of the pan with one flavor or toppings and the other side a different one.
    • Can sprinkle sea salt on top of the chocolate.
    • Can use unsalted butter to cut down on the salt intake.
    • Need to serve more? Double, triple or quadruple the recipe.

    Toppings

    • M&M’s – use red and green for the holidays.
    • Holiday Sprinkles
    • Nuts such as chopped pecans, almonds or walnuts.
    • Crushed Peppermint Candies
    • Toffee
    • Caramel
    • Candy bar pieces such as Butterfingers or Snickers.
    • Pretzels (regular, white or chocolate covered)

    Ingredients

    ½ cup butter
    ½ cup brown sugar
    9-12 saltine crackers
    1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
    Red and Green M&M’s

How to Make Christmas Cracker Candy

Preheat the oven to 325F degrees.

Line a baking tray or casserole dish with parchment paper and lay down a single layer of the saltine crackers. You may need to break a few crackers to fill in any gaps.

Place the butter and brown sugar in a small saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat. Allow the mixture to melt and blend completely before removing from heat. (You can stir it but it won’t burn if you don’t.)

Immediately pour the melted caramel over the crackers in an even layer.

Place the crackers in the oven for 10 minutes, until the caramel is completely absorbed and the crackers have taken on a glossy, hard caramel appearance.

Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot crackers and let melt. Spread with an offset spatula and immediately sprinkle on M&Ms to allow them to stick to the chocolate. Place in fridge and let set.

Once set, break apart and store in an air tight container at room temperature or in fridge until ready to serve.

Can you Make Ahead of Time?

Yes, you can definitely make this recipe ahead of time. Make the recipe per instructions. Place in an air tight container and put in the fridge for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to a month.
