Geneva-on-the-Lake holds a special place in my heart. It’s peaceful, fun, and full of charm, which is why I return year after year. Every visit brings something new to discover, whether it’s a local event, a new winery or a tucked away spot I somehow missed before. And even after countless trips, I still haven’t done it all!
After spending so much time there, I like to think I’ve become a bit of a Geneva-on-the-Lake expert, which is why I’m excited to share my favorite places to stay, sip wine, explore and relax. Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, this destination always offers something unique. And I can almost guarantee you’ll want to come back.


It’s the perfect spot for just about any occasion: a family vacation (we just celebrated my parents’ 50th anniversary there), a girls’ weekend, a birthday getaway, bachelorette party, or even a quick trip close to home.

1.Walk the Strip
Explore the one mile long strip where you will find arcades, food vendors, bars and unique shops all in one place. The quirky magic shop and souvenir t-shirt shops are always fun to stop in. If you don’t want to walk you can also rent a golf cart for the day.

2. Visit Adventure Zone
This is a fun place to visit for families where you can ride go-karts, bumper boats, mini golf, rock climbing or ziplining.

3. Relax at Geneva State Park
Enjoy the great outdoors on the hiking trails, sandy beach or unwind with a good book on a bench or open lawn.

4. Play the Nostalgic Fascination
Do you remember the Fascination game at Cedar Point? Relive the fun and play several games on the strip and win prizes.

5. Go Wine Tasting
Visit local wineries like Laurello Vineyards, Old Mill Winery, South Ridge Vineyard and more to sample Ohio’s finest wines.


6. Grab Donuts from Madsen Donuts
This local favorite has been serving fresh, homemade donuts since 1938. Don’t leave without trying their best seller, cream-filled stick donut.

7. Eat a Chili Dog at Eddie Grill
This 1950’s diner is know for their chili dogs, burgers and root beer floats. One of my favorite places to grab a quick lunch.
8. Attend Thunder on the Strip (early September)
Experience the annual motorcycle rally filled with live music and street vendors.
9. Visit Geneva-on-the-Lake Historical Society Museum
Learn about the rich history of the area through artifacts, photos and stories at this quaint museum.
10. Sample Local Brews at GOTL Brewing Co.
Relax with a craft beer and lake views at this laid-back brewery tucked away near the end of the strip. They offer a rotating selection of house-made brews and casual bites.
11. Enjoy a Lakeside Picnic at Township Park
Set up a picnic with a panoramic lake scenery. It offers plenty of shaded areas, picnic tables, playground, restroom and grills.

12. Watch the Sunset
Catch a breathtaking sunset over Lake Erie! Some of my favorite spots to get the best views are the Lodge at Geneva on the Lake, marina pier or Firehouse Winery.

13. Take a Shot at Axe Throwing
Chanel your inner lumberjack and try your hand at axe throwing at either Adventure Zone or Game On Arcade.
14. Book a Massage at the Lakehouse Inn
Treat yourself to a massage, facial or spa package for total relaxation.
15. Go Fishing off the Pier
Bring your fishing gear and fishing license and cast off the pier for a chance to catch perch, bass or walleye.

16. Try Wine Flights at Debonne Winery
Sample several varietals with different flight options at Debonne Vineyards, one of Ohio’s oldest and most popular wineries.


17. Play Arcade Games at Game On Arcade and Sports Pub
A great place to play a variety of arcade games while enjoying some drinks from the bar.

18. Rent a Lakeside Cottage or Cabin for the Weekend
Book a cozy cottage at The Lodge or cabin from Vrbo or Airbnb. Most have front row views of the lake and offer peaceful locations.

19. Take a Ferris Wheel Ride at Firehouse Winery
Enjoy the scenic views of Lake Erie as you go around on the Ferris Wheel.

Challenge friends and family to a round of 18 hours at Allison’s Mini Golf (the oldest continuous mini golf course sine 1924) or Adventure Zone Mini Golf featuring a waterfall.

Cool off with an ice cream cone or sundae at this class ice cream stand location right across The Lodge at Geneva on the Lake.
22. Go for a Swim at Breakwater Beach
A great place to cool off in Lake Erie during the warmer temps. Family-friendly with plenty of sand to set up your beach chairs and umbrella. Shore is mostly rocks so you may want to wear water shoes.

23. Attend a Summer Concert on the Lake
Catch live music from local bands at venues like Firehouse Winery, Sportsterz Bar and Grill and others hosted along The Strip.
24. Go Kayaking or Paddleboarding
Rent a kayak or paddleboard to explore Lake Erie or for a relaxing adventure on the water.

Indulge your sweet tooth with nostalgic candy, cotton candy and other fun treats and toys. You can also customize your own candy bags and pay by the pound.

Browse the Strip’s unique boutiques and gift stores to take home a piece of Geneva on the Lake. If you’re visiting Memorial Day through Labor Day, check out the arts and craft event on Saturdays.

If you’re staying at The Lodge at Geneva on the Lake, take advantage of the their free bike rentals. Cruise down The Strip or ride the scenic trails with beautiful lake views.
31. Get Breakfast at Sunrise Cafe
Start the day with a hearty breakfast on the strip that’s known for its homemade comfort food and friendly sarcasm.
32. Go Beach Glass Hunting along the Shoreline
Walk the beach and search for colorful pieces of beach glass. The best place to find some is at Geneva State Park.

Watch the boats come and go or grab a bite at the store.
