This Walnut Streusel Pumpkin Pie takes a classic pumpkin pie recipe and turns it into something amazing with a delicious sweet and crunchy topping that’s worth every bite!

    Walnut Streusel Pumpkin Pie

Whenever I think of streusel pie topping I always think of a dutch apple. Of course, streusel is used for any type of pie you can imagine, but for me, it’s just always been a characteristic specific to apple pie. I never would of considered it on a pumpkin pie until now.

This is not the traditional way we usually enjoy pumpkin pie, but a unique detail that totally transforms the pie for a different taste. You get that sweet taste and crunchy texture all in one pie that’s a great addition to the Thanksgiving pie table.

    Pumpkin Pies with Topping

Pumpkin pies always taste better with something on top. Even if it’s a simple dollop of whipped cream. I enjoy adding layers of texture and flavor to a traditional pumpkin pie. This streusel topping is the perfect crumbly component to enhance the smooth custardy texture of the pumpkin pie filling. It also helps keep your pie looking spectacular.

One thing you need to look out for with pumpkin pie is the cracking. As they bake pumpkin pies rise up slightly and may crack. You can avoid cracking by using room temperature eggs at the time you whisk the other ingredients in with the eggs. If the pie does crack there is a good chance that much of it will be repaired by the time the pie cools and the initial lift condenses into the pan. However, none of that matters if you are only going to cover it up anyway, especially when you use delicious walnut streusel to do it!

This pie is delicious cold or warm and it tastes amazing with a cup of coffee. Just make sure to cool it down completely before attempting to cut a slice and always store leftovers in the refrigerator.

    Pumpkin Pie Ingredients

    1 9in deep-dish pie
    2 large eggs
    1 – 15oz Can of Pumpkin Puree
    1 C evaporated milk
    14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
    ½ tsp kosher salt
    1 tsp ground cinnamon
    ½ tsp ground ginger
    ½ tsp ground cloves

    Walnut Streusel Topping Ingredients

¼ C light brown sugar, packed
    2 tbsp flour
2 tbsp unsalted sweet cream butter, softened
    ½ tsp ground cinnamon
    ½ C chopped walnuts

    How to Make Pumpkin Pie

Preheat oven to 425 degrees and place the pie dish onto a cookie sheet.

Using a large bowl, whisk together the eggs until whisked. Whisk in the pumpkin, evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, salt, and spices until combined.

Pour pie mixture into the pie crust. Bake for 15 minutes, then turn the oven down to 350F and bake for another 50-60 minutes, or until set around the edges and a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.

Allow to cool to room temperature before placing into the fridge.

How to Make Walnut Streusel Topping

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Using a medium bowl and fingers, pinch together all streusel ingredients to create a crumble.

Remove pie from fridge and place onto cookie sheet. Cover the top of the pie with the streusel.

When oven is preheated, place the pie into the oven for 10 minutes. Allow the pie to cool before cutting and enjoy!
