    walking chili cheese dogs

Walking meals and walking desserts are great for outdoor events, as they are easy to eat while standing and walking around. These walking chili cheese dogs are similar to walking tacos, but with a hot dog twist.

I love prepping them ahead of time in the crockpot and then assembling them before serving. You can also set up a walking chili cheese dog bar where guests can customize their own toppings.

    Ingredients

    • Mini Funyun Bags: These will serve as the base for the walking chili cheese dogs. You can also use Fritos or any other type of corn chip you prefer.
    • Chili: You can use your favorite canned chili with or without beans or make your own homemade chili.
    • Shredded Cheese: You can use any type of shredded cheese you like, such as Colby Jack, Cheddar or Mexican blend.
    • Hot Dogs: I used beef hot dogs, but you can use any type of hot dog you prefer. You can also use sausages or bratwurst instead.
    • Nacho cheese: I used store-bought nacho cheese, but you can also use Velveeta cheese.

How to Make Walking Chili Cheese Dogs

Begin by grilling or boiling the hot dogs until they are cooked through. Chop into pieces.

Next, warm up the chili in a saucepan on the stove. Add in nacho cheese and cooked hot dogs and warm through.

Open up each bag of Funyuns and lightly crush to break up.

    FAQs

    How do you store leftovers?

The walking chili cheese dogs don’t store well assembled. You can store the items separately in containers, reheat and then assemble.

Can I prepare these ahead of time for a party?

Yes, you can pre-cook the chili, nacho cheese and hot dogs and keep it warm in a slow cooker. Set out all your toppings so guests can assemble their own.
