What Chocolate is Used for Hot Cocoa Bombs?

The best chocolate to use for hot chocolate bombs are melting chocolate. My favorite to use are the Wilton candy melts and Ghirardelli melting wafers. The flavor  of the chocolate will depend on what you want to make. I’ve seen vanilla, chocolate, dark chocolate and strawberry.

    Boozy Cocoa Bombs Tips

    • Don’t overcook the chocolate.
    • Use a hot plate to seal the two chocolate molds together to make a hot chocolate bomb. Reheat if necessary.
    • Smooth out any air bubbles in chocolate after placing it in silicone mold using the back of a spoon.
    • Want more booze? Add some to the hot cocoa mix inside the cocoa bomb. Or add a second dropper filled with booze.
    • Make sure the chocolate is firm before building.
    • Skip the alcohol and make them non-alcoholic.
    • To store, keep them in an airtight container in fridge to avoid melting.

    Boozy Cocoa Bomb Ingredients

    White hot cocoa mix
    Strawberry flavored pink candy melts
    Pink heart marshmallows
    White candy melts
    Wilton large pink hearts
    Baileys Strawberries & Cream Liqueur
    Sprinkles (optional)
    Chocolate Frosting (optional)

    Will Also Need

    XL Semi-Sphere Silicone Molds
    Heart Plastic Dropper
    Parchment Paper
    Ziploc Bag
    Bowl
    Spoon
    Hot Milk
    Mug
    Hot Plate

How to Make Boozy Cocoa Bombs

Add strawberry candy melts to bowl and melt in microwave in 30 second increments stirring in between until creamy and smooth.

Spoon about 1-2 tbsp of the melted candy melts into the mold making sure to only fill the sides of the mold all the way to the top and keeping the inside hollow. Use the back of a spoon to guide the chocolate throughout the mold.

Place molds in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes or until they are easy to pop out. Very carefully remove the chocolate from the mold. If they don’t pop out easily, place back in freezer for a few more minutes.

    How to Seal Cocoa Bombs

Fill 1 of the molds with 1 ½ tbsp white hot chocolate mix and about 4-5 pink heart marshmallows.

Heat a plate in the microwave for about 45 seconds or until hot. Press the empty chocolate mold half open-side-down onto the flat portion of the warm plate for a few seconds to gently melt the rim of the chocolate.

Immediately press this warmed edge chocolate cup to the top of the filled cup. This will join the two halves of the hot cocoa bomb. If you are having trouble getting the two halves to join, you can carefully rub your finger around the line to seal the together or pipe melted chocolate around to seal together.

Place the hot cocoa bombs into the freezer for 5 minutes to harden.

How to Decorate and Add Booze to Cocoa Bombs

Add white candy melts to bowl and melt in microwave in 30 second increments stirring in between until creamy and smooth.

Put melted chocolate in a ziploc bag, seal and snip off a corner. Pipe melted chocolate across the top of the boozy cocoa bomb and place in freezer for a few minutes to allow to harden.

Fill the heart plastic dropper with Baileys Strawberries & Cream.

Heat up a meat thermometer in a cup of boiling water. Use the heated meat thermometer to make a hole in the top of the cocoa bomb where you want the dropper to go. Carefully and lightly push down to allow the chocolate to melt and make a hole.

Place the dropper filled with the liqueur inside the hole. Can seal the dropper by piping some melted chocolate around the hole and allow to harden.

If you want to decorate the mug, spread chocolate frosting around the rim of a coffee mug and roll in sprinkles.
