    Muddy Buddies are a classic holiday recipe that everyone will love! They’re simple to make, only require a few ingredients and perfect for any holiday party or gathering!

    Easy Muddy Buddies Recipe

    It’s the most wonderful time of the year…for holiday baking! One of our favorite holiday traditions is making no-bake treats. These are easy to make and perfect for last-minute holiday gifts and gatherings.

    How to Make Puppy Chow

    We always start with making a batch of muddy buddies. This recipe is super versatile and can be customized to your liking. We like to add in festive holiday sprinkles and candies to ours.

    Then, we bake up a batch of sugar cookies. These can be decorated however you like but we usually go for a classic frosted cookie.

    Finally, no holiday gathering is complete without some fudge! This recipe is super easy and only requires a few ingredients. Plus, it’s always a hit with guests.

    Then we take all of our treats, package them up in cute little tins and share with friends and family.

    What are Muddy Buddies?

    Muddy Buddies are a snack made from Chex cereal, chocolate, and peanut butter. They are also sometimes called Puppy Chow or Reindeer Chow.

    The popular snack originated in the Midwest, and its name is derived from its appearance; the cereal pieces are coated in a layer of chocolate and peanut butter, making them look like dog kibble.

    • Peanut Butter

    • Rice Chex Cereal
    • Butter

    1. In a saucepan over low heat melt the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter stirring continuously until melted.
    2. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
    3. Pour the mixture over the Chex cereal and mix until coated.
    4. Next, pour the cereal into a large resealable bag. Add the powdered sugar to the bag and shake until coated.
    5. Spread the Muddy Buddies on a sheet of wax paper to cool.

    Once cooled, Muddy Buddies can be stored in an airtight container for several weeks at room temperature.

    Can I use my microwave?

    Yes, you can use your microwave if you don’t want to use the stovetop. Just add the chocolate, butter and peanut butter in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave in 30 second increments stirring in between until fully melted and smooth.

    Can I use white chocolate chips instead?

    Yes, you can swap out the milk chocolate chips for white chocolate chips if you’d prefer. It will just have a different flavor but just as delicious.

    Do I have to use Chex cereal?

    You can use any kind of rice Chex cereal as long as it is does not have a flavor. Some even use Crispix cereal to make it.

    Can I add other ingredients to my Muddy Buddies?

    Yes! If you want to get creative with your Muddy Buddies try adding nuts for a trail mix or red and green M&M’s for a Christmas treat.
