Cola Chicken Ingredients
- Chicken: I used chicken breasts for this recipe, but you can also swap them out for chicken thighs or chicken wings.
- Cola: The cola adds a touch of sweetness and helps caramelize the sauce as it cooks. Any brand works, so use your favorite.
- Barbeque sauce: I went with my go-to BBQ sauce, which adds a tangy, smoky flavor. Feel free to use whichever sauce you love or have on hand.
- Garlic: Fresh minced garlic works best in this recipe. You can choose to leave it out.
- Seasonings: I kept it simple with black pepper and garlic salt, but you can customize with your favorite spices to suit your taste!
How to Make Cola Chicken
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Place chicken in a 9X13 baking dish. Season chicken with black pepper and garlic salt.
In a medium bowl, whisk together, cola, barbeque sauce and minced garlic.
Pour mixture over chicken. Cover with foil and bake for 1 ½ – 2 hours or until chicken is cooked through and internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F.
Carefully remove foil, add some sliced green onions on top and sesame seeds if you’d like and enjoy!
Recipe Tips & Variations
- Add some protein by wrapping bacon around the chicken.
- Switch up the seasonings to your liking.
- Kick it up a notch and add some hot sauce or red pepper flakes to mix for some heat.
Can you Cook Cola Chicken in the Crock Pot?
Yes, you can most definitely in the slow cooker. Just throw all the ingredients in a crock pot and cook on low 6-8 hours or high 4-6 hours until chicken is done at 165 degrees internal temperature.
Can you use Diet Cola in Cola Chicken?
Yes, you can use diet cola in place of regular cola in this recipe. The taste may be slightly different with a more sweeter flavor because of the sweetener used in diet soda. You can also use Cherry Cola or Dr. Pepper if you want an even more sweeter/cherry flavor in your chicken.
