Apple Cinnamon Baked Donuts Gluten Free

Every once in a while, you want to treat yourself with something sweet. Nothing says fall without apple cider, pumpkins and baked goods. It’s something I look forward to every year and don’t think I will ever get tired of it.

When we think of delicious desserts, baked donuts are one of the first things that come to mind. These apple cinnamon baked donuts are gluten free and will have your mouth watering!

The flavor combination is perfect for fall mornings and will make you think of apple cider donuts at the county fair or hot cocoa in front of the fireplace. You can make them with your kids in the morning and have time to enjoy some coffee before you head out for the day or enjoy anytime!

    Baking Tips & Variations

    • Do not stick your measuring cup into the gluten free flour. Instead, spoon the flour into the measuring cup and level off flour with a knife to avoid using too much flour.
    • If you want to avoid the icing from melting all over the donuts you can allow them to cool completely or even slightly.
    • Make sure to spray the donut pan with cooking spray before adding the dough mixture to prevent them from sticking.

    How to Store Donuts

    • Store leftover donuts in an airtight container for 2-3 days. Serve warm by placing in the microwave for a few seconds.
    • You can make these ahead of time and freeze for up to 3 months. If freezing don’t add the icing until the day of serving. Make sure the donuts are completely thawed, add the icing and enjoy.

    Apple Cinnamon Baked Donuts

    1 ½ cups gluten free all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon xanthan gum (exclude if your flour blend contains it)
    ½ teaspoon cinnamon
    ½ teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    ¾ cup granulated sugar
    3 tablespoons avocado oil
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    2 eggs
    1 cup unsweetened applesauce

    Glaze Ingredients

    1 cup powdered sugar
    ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    4 tablespoons maple syrup
    1-2 tablespoons milk

How to Make Apple Cinnamon Baked Donuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a donut pan with cooking spray and set aside.

In a large bowl, add sugar, avocado oil, vanilla extract, eggs and applesauce. Whisk to combine. Add remaining donut ingredients to the same bowl and mix to fully incorporate.

add the donut dough to the donut pan and bake

Transfer donut batter to a large ziplock bag, remove any air from the bag and seal it closed.  Cut off a corner of the ziplock bag and pipe the batter until it fills each well of the donut pan.
Bake for 14-16 minutes or until donuts are lightly golden brown. Continue until all batter has been used.

Place a wire rack over a baking sheet and set aside. Add glaze ingredients to a small bowl and stir to combine.

Dip each donut into the glaze and place on wire rack to allow excess icing to drip off. Serve warm.

Those look delicious, but can you use regular all-purpose flour?

I have not tried it with all-purpose flour. Since they are 2 different kind of flours the recipe would be different for non gluten free. Example the all-purpose flour would be a smaller amount and the xanthan gum would be eliminated. You may have to experiment to get it right. Let me know if you try it and how it turns out if so.
