Preheat your oven to 350℉.
While the oven is preheating, add the butter to a 9x13 inch baking dish and place it in the oven to melt.
In a medium mixing bowl, combine the strawberries with ½ cup of sugar and stir gently to coat. Set aside.
In another mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Add the milk, vanilla, and 1 tbsp sugar, then whisk until a smooth batter forms.
Once the butter is melted, remove the baking dish from the oven and carefully spread the strawberry mixture evenly over the melted butter.
Pour the cobbler batter evenly over the strawberries. Do not stir.
Return the baking dish to the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
Serve warm with vanilla ice or Cool Whip on top.
