Dough Ingredients
- 1 tube refrigerated thin crust pizza crust
Spinach Filling Ingredients
- 12 oz frozen chopped spinach thawed and squeezed dry
- 6 oz cream cheese softened
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese
Dough Brush Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter melted
- Pinch of garlic salt
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
Prepare the Filling
Preheat oven to 400F degrees.
Add the spinach and cream cheese in a bowl and beat together. Add onion powder, garlic, pepper, salt, chili powder and Italian seasoning to the bowl and beat together until combined.
Add parmesan cheese plus only half of the mozzarella cheese (save the other half of the mozzarella cheese for later) to the bowl and beat to combine.
Shape the Christmas Tree
Lay a piece of parchment paper on a flat surface and unroll dough. Using a pizza cutter, cut 3 triangles, (one large one in the middle and 2 smaller ones on each side.)
Place a piece of parchment paper on a large cookie sheet. Take the 2 smaller triangles and connect them together on a separate piece of parchment paper on the cookie sheet and pinch together until they form one large triangle.
If you want to make a tree trunk, use the pizza cutter and cut about a 1-2 inch width all the way across the 2 connected triangles. Take that dough and shape into a tree trunk and connect to the bottom of the dough tree.
Take the spinach filling and spread all over the large triangle. Spread the remaining mozzarella cheese over top of the filling.
Take the remaining triangle dough and place over top of the spinach filling and spread across and pinch together until it is completely covered.
Use a pizza cutter and cut across but not all the way on each side to the bottom leaving a tree trunk about 2 inches wide all the way down the middle.
Take each cut slice and twist twice but only halfway each time, giving it a tree like appearance.
Bake and Serve
Bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown on top and cooked through.
In a bowl, melt butter and stir in garlic salt and Italian seasoning. Brush over breadsticks, allow to melt and serve warm.
Tips & Variations
- Can use a puff pastry dough in place of refrigerated pizza dough.
- Can you fresh spinach in place of frozen but keep in mind that fresh spinach is stronger in taste than frozen and can give it a completely different flavor than using frozen.
- If you want your dip to be extra cheesy feel free to use a combination of parmesan and cheddar cheese, however, keep in mind that the taste will be a little bit stronger and tangier.
- If you want to give your dish a more light and refreshing flavor, use reduced fat cream cheese. This modification is healthier as well as delicious!
