Step One - Make the chocolate skulls. Add candy melts (will need about 30 candy melts) to a microwave safe bowl and melt in microwave in 30 second increments stirring in between until creamy and smooth.
Spoon melted candy melts into the molds making sure to only fill the sides of the mold all the way to the top and keeping the inside hollow. Use the back of a spoon to guide the chocolate throughout the mold.
Place molds in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes or fridge for 30 minutes, until they are easy to pop out. Very carefully remove the chocolate from the mold. If they don’t pop out easily, place back in fridge/freezer for a few more minutes.
Step Two - Build the chocolate skulls. Heat a plate in the microwave for about 45 seconds or until hot. Press the the hollow chocolate mold half open-side-down onto the flat portion of the warm plate and twist back and forth for a few seconds to gently melt the rim of the chocolate.
Immediately press this warmed edge chocolate to the other half. This will join the two halves together. If you are having trouble getting the two halves to join, you can carefully rub your finger around the line to seal the together or pipe melted chocolate around to seal together. Set aside to harden.
Step Three - Make the cupcakes. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and place cupcake liners into a cupcake pan. Using a standing mixer or hand beater, combine all cupcake ingredients and beat until fully combined and smooth. Fill the cupcake liners ¾ way full with batter. Bake in the oven for 20 - 22 minutes or until the tops bounce back when touched. Set aside to allow to cool.
Step Four - Make the frosting. Using a standing mixer, beat the butter, powdered sugar, vanilla and heavy whipping cream with paddle attachment until combined, creamy and stiff. Scoop the frosting into the piping bag and pipe a thick dollop of frosting on top of the cupcake.
Step Five - Decorate the cupcakes. Place 1-2 chocolate skulls on top of the frosting. Using the red cookie icing, pipe blood details on the skulls to create a bleeding effect Enjoy!
