Ingredients

  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup water
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Dash of hot sauce
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 1 32- ounce package frozen French fries
  • 2 cups shredded Monterrey jack cheese
  • Chopped green onion for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Grease a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray and spread the French fries in an even layer over the sheet. Bake for 20 minutes, until crispy and golden brown.
  • While the potatoes are cooking, mix the sauce by combining the ketchup, water, garlic, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, chili powder, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, and hot sauce. Set aside.
  • Brown the ground beef with the chopped onions in a large skillet over medium heat. When the beef is cooked through, add the sauce and stir to coat. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes, until sauce begins to reduce.
  • When the fries are cooked, remove from oven and top with half the shredded cheese. Sprinkle the sloppy Joe mixture over the top of the fries and top with remaining cheese.
  • Bake for five to 10 more minutes, until cheese is melted. Top with chopped green onion as garnish before serving.
