Over the weekend, I was part of a press junket with some of the cast and filmmakers of the upcoming movie The War with Grandpa. The movie hits theaters on October 9th and is a great family comedy of all ages to see. Stay tuned for my review on it soon!
I can’t spill the beans just yet about the movie but there may be some spoilers from the cast interviews with Laura Marano (Austin & Ally), Oakes Fegley (Pete’s Dragon), Cheech Marin (Up in Smoke), Jane Seymour (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman) and Filmmakers Tre Peart + Marvin Peart + Rosa Peart: Tre Peart. You’ll have to check them out below to find out!
Laura Marano + Oakes Fegley Interview
The first interview started with Laura Marano and Oakes Fegley. I interviewed Oakes Fegley back in 2016 when he did his first movie, Pete’s Dragon. He was still the same genuine down to earth kid but in the movie that is a different story. He talks about how he threw down the gauntlet to get his room back and what it was like working with Robert De Niro.
Laura Marano (Austin & Ally) plays a role where there always seems to be a misunderstanding between mom and teens. I could so relate to this as having a house full of teens myself. And she also talks about what it was like working alongside Uma Thurman as her mom in the movie.
As for pranks, surprisingly neither of them are pranksters like in the movie. Instead they are pretty laid back in real life. Laura did mention that she kind of regrets not doing any pranks on set but they both agreed they had a lot of fun doing them for the movie. Learn more of all the details in the full interview below.
Filmmakers Tre, Marvin & Rosa Peart Interview
When Tre Peart was 8-years old, pitched the movie idea based on a book he read to his parents Marvin Peart (Brookdale Studios) and Rosa Peart (Marro Media Company). They loved the idea and turned it into a family affair by financing and producing the film along their son, Tre.
During the interview we talked about all the details of turning the book into the film. And you know I had to ask them about the Godfather reference and what Mr. De Niro thought about the idea of it being in the movie. Find out the response in the interview below.
Cheech Marin + Jane Seymour Interview
It was no surprise that Cheech Marin and Jane Seymour would have us laughing during this interview. They are a hoot together and even talked about doing a crossover of their past movies together, you know….Up in Smoke and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. I mean that would be pretty epic but no, it’s not happening.
We talked about their parts in the movie, working with De Niro and what it was like being sort of a baddie. Their answers will have you rolling. And for a part 2 of the movie? Yeah, we sort of surprised them with that. Oops!
See The War with Grandpa in theaters October 9th!
About The War with Grandpa Movie
Sixth-grader Peter (Oakes Fegley) is pretty much your average kid-he likes gaming, hanging with his friends and his beloved pair of Air Jordans. But when his recently widowed grandfather Ed (Robert De Niro) moves in with Peter’s family, the boy is forced to give up his most prized possession of all, his bedroom. Unwilling to let such an injustice stand, Peter devises a series of increasingly elaborate pranks to drive out the interloper, but Grandpa Ed won’t go without a fight. Soon, the friendly combatants are engaged in an all-out war with side-splitting consequences.
Based on the award-winning book by Robert Kimmel Smith, The War with Grandpa is a hilarious family comedy featuring an all-star supporting cast: Christopher Walken, Uma Thurman, Rob Riggle, Cheech Marin, Laura Marano and Jane Seymour.
