DIY Addams Family Costumes

It’s been 28 years since The Addams Family has been theaters and just in time for Halloween, The Addams Family and Addams Family Values is available on Blu-ray in a 2-movie collection. And on top of that the new Meet The Addams movie is now playing in theaters. To celebrate all of this, I’m sharing these Addams Family DIY Halloween costumes that makes a great group costume idea for Halloween.

DIY Cousin It Candy Bucket

Supplies Needed

pumpkin bucket

mop head

hot glue gun & glue

top hat

Take out the current handle on the pumpkin bucket.

Apply hot glue around the edge of the pumpkin bucket and apply the mop head to make it look like a wig draping over it.

Cut a circle in the top of the hat and glue the hat on top of the bucket and mop head.

Poke a hole on each side of the top hat and feed a string through the bucket holes and the top hat and leave it long enough to carry around.

Poke 2 holes where the eyes are on the bucket big enough to fit the sunglasses in. You may need to hot glue them to keep them in.

Your Cousin It bucket is ready to take around trick or treating or can even be used to pass out candy.

Morticia Addams Costume

This costume is super easy to do and could possibly be found around your house. All you need is a black hooded robe, belt cord, white face paint, black face paint and a light bulb is optional.

Gomez Addams Costume

When long-lost Uncle Fester (Christopher Lloyd) reappears after 25 years in the Bermuda Triangle, Gomez (Raul Julia) and Morticia (Anjelica Huston) plan a celebration to wake the dead.  But Wednesday (Christina Ricci) barely has time to warm up her electric chair before Thing points out Fester’s uncommonly “normal” behavior. Could this Fester be a fake, part of an evil scheme to raid the Addams fortune?

It’s love at first fright when Gomez (Raul Julia) and Morticia (Anjelica Huston) welcome a new addition to the Addams household — Pubert, their soft, cuddly, mustachioed baby boy. As Fester (Christopher Lloyd) falls hard for voluptuous nanny Debbie Jilinksy (Joan Cusack), Wednesday (Christina Ricci) and Pugsley (Jimmy Workman) discover she’s a black-widow murderess who plans to add Fester to her collection of dead husbands.  ADDAMS FAMILY VALUES is debuting on Blu-ray for the first time.

Pick up your copy of both of these movies in store and online for family movie night. Thank you Paramount Pictures for a copy of the movie and costume kit.

Thanks Disneyland for providing 2 park hopper tickets.

Halloween is almost upon us, so that means it’s time to go to the Disneyland Resort. Who can resist a drop-in at Market House on Main Street for a Venti Pumpkin Spice Latte? Disneyland is best in the fall because the festive decor adds another level of fun and picturesque beauty to the already magical palette of the park. Disney’s California Adventure is an even more critical stop for Halloween fans with all of the exciting offerings you’ll find there. Between now and November, Disneyland resort is the best place to go for Halloween ambiance, family fun, and scary thrills. Therefore, here is an overview of all things Halloween Time at Disneyland.

Halloween Time at Disneyland

Haunted Mansion Holiday

The tradition continues at the Haunted Mansion. Jack Skellington will don his Sandy Claws outfit to make sure that all 999 happy haunts have a Christmas this year. Although the extensive overlay is more specifically, Christmas themed, the changes to the attraction have already been made to celebrate both hallow-days.

Main Street Pumpkin Festival

A touch of small-town charm emits from Main Street USA as you examine the array of hand-carved pumpkins on display for the festival, then grab a festive Halloween treat. Main Street is also the perfect place to stop for just the right Halloween treat from Jolly Holiday, or the Market House (Starbucks).

Costumed Characters

One of the unique and exciting aspects of visiting Halloween Time at Disneyland is that the characters in the park are wearing unique costumes. It’s so much fun to see everybody getting into the spirit of the holiday.

Halloween Screams

There is a new fireworks show in town that Jack Skellington hosts. A flying Zero accompanies him. On select nights throughout the Halloween season, Halloween Screams ignites the sky with Fireworks, projections and synchronized lights on the castle. Other dates will include the castle show, but no fireworks. The 10-minute long show will feature the Haunted Mansion and an assortment of villains, including Maleficent and Ursula.

Halloween Time at Disney’s California Adventure

Plaza De Familia

Remember your loved ones at this Coco inspired corner of Disney’s California Adventure. Paradise Gardens Park is home to many Mexico inspired festivities.

Cars Land

As always Cars Land celebrates Haul-o-ween right. See Lightning McQueen and Mater in costume and ride Halloween versions of Luigi’s Rollicking Roadsters and Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree. These overlays are enhanced with spooky and funny decor throughout Radiator Springs. Get some treats at the Cozy Cone, or order a special from Flo’s.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Mission: Break Out gives way to a new mission to break back in and rescue Groot. The rescue mission also has a special soundtrack and takes place among rioting monsters in a fun and exciting new experience.

Oogie Boogie Bash – SOLD OUT!

The Halloween Party is awesome, but tickets are already sold out. During the party, there is a World of Color replacement called Villainous which is hosted by Oogie himself. There is also a Mickey Mouse hosted costume party and a series of trick or treat trails for party guests to enjoy. One of the coolest things at the party is the dream-like realm of Villains Cove. It’s right by Grizzly Peak and features a variety of spooky, fun environments.

If you’re looking to purchase Disneyland tickets, head on over to GetAwayToday.com. They offer packages and tickets to Disneyland and other attractions in the area. Once your tickets are purchased, they will be delivered to your email as a voucher. You can bring that to the parks either printed out or on your phone to redeem it for a ticket.

Lunch Lady Costume

Halloween is around the corner and if you are still looking for a costume for a party or for Halloween try this Lunch Lady Costume. I was able to use some items I had from home and whatever I didn’t have on hand I found at the thrift store.

Items Needed

  1. Put a white apron over the mumu dress. You may need to wear a long-sleeved shirt underneath the dress depending on how cold it is.
  2. Create a handmade name tag using a name badge, sticker, or laminated name tag.
  3. Apply heavy blush and put on wig, hairnet, and glasses. Feel free to create a mole with brown eyeliner.
  4. Pull up some athletic socks to mid calf.
  5. Lastly add the Playtex rubber gloves.

There are several different ways you can pull off the Lunch Lady costume with items you may have on hand or borrowing from someone. You can also make it a couples costume if you have your other half be a lunch tray.

Spirit Halloween has been bringing Halloween to life across the nation for over 30 years. They carry everything you need for Halloween with a great selection of costumes, masks, wigs, accessories, makeup, and decorations. The best part is that all of this is under one roof so you don’t need to go from store to store. And truthfully you get a better experience in the store being able to try on the costumes, and playing with the displays. Can’t find what you are looking for in the store? Browse the online store at SpiritHalloween.com 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year because I get to dress up with the kids. Thinking of the what we are going to be is the hard part. The easy part is finding everything at Spirit Halloween. One of my favorite things to do when I walked into a Spirit Halloween store is playing with the props and seeing which one can scare us the most.

Browsing through the store is easy to do because everything is labeled with a sign. If you want to be a super hero you would look under the super hero sign. Accessories are in separate areas of the store such as wigs, makeup, etc. and labeled in the store according. My husband is such a kid at heart and had fun trying on the masks in the store.

My son knew he wanted a “Skin Suit” costume so we headed to the boys section of the store. The hard part for him was deciding on what color to buy. I wanted to dress up like Ariel from the Little Mermaid and had everything already but the wig. Our costumes are now complete and we are ready for Halloween.

There is still time to get all of your Halloween items at Spirit Halloween. Visit a store near you and check out Spirit Halloween’s Instagram account for a 20% off coupon one single item.

Spirit Halloween also has a great program called Spirit of Children.  It brings fun and funding to hospitals at Halloween and all year-long through support of Child Life at hospitals in local communities.

Our mission is to make hospital stays less scary for kids and their families. We started in 2006 with eleven hospitals in our own backyard with the belief that a great holiday should do great good. And it worked! Since that first Halloween party in 2006, we have raised more than $22 million in cash and merchandise donations and have partnered with over 130 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada. Every dollar collected goes directly to the hospitals and local donations stay local. For more information, visit the website.

Be sure to follow Spirit Halloween on facebook and twitter for their latest updates and promotions!

DIY Spooky Light-Up Trick or Treat Bag

It’s getting closer to Halloween and by now the kids are starting to get excited by picking out their costumes and trick or treat bags.  My son wanted a Spooky Light-Up Trick or Treat bag for Halloween but I didn’t want to spend a bunch of money on one. Instead I search my local Dollar Tree store in the Halloween section and found a Skull bag and some battery operated tealights. The total cost for this DIY Spooky Light-Up Trick or Treat Bag was $3.

  • Reusable Bag (preferably one that has a Spooky Halloween Print on the front) $1
  • 2 Battery Operated Tealights $1
  • Duct Tape $1

1. Using a Black marker make a dot where you want the tealights to go.
2. Using scissors or a meat thermometer carefully and slowly poke a hole thru the dot.

3. Turn the bag inside out and stick each tealight thru the hole with the light-up side sticking out of the front.
4. While the bag is still inside out, use the duct tape and tape the tealights to the inside of the bag leaving the on/off switch un-taped.
5. Turn on the tealights and turn the bag the right way.

Now you have a $3 or less trick or treat bag for the kids. Some items you may already have on hand so it could be lesser out-of-pocket.

At my local Dollar Tree store they had different Halloween reusable bag designs and colors to choose from. There are many different varieties bags you can do so each kid can have their own unique trick or treat bag.
