Smart Updates Your Home Needs When Renovating
When it’s time to renovate your home, think about doing it smarter with the latest technology and devices to protect your home. Think about what needs to be updated such as appliances, security and, most importantly, carbon monoxide and smoke alarms. There are some pretty nifty gadgets out there that can make it easier for you, save you money, add value to your home, and protect your family.
We’ve lived in our home for 19 years now and we’ve been updating our home one room at a time for the past year with smart updates. Take a moment to think about fire safety. It’s something that we all forget. When was the last time you’ve changed out your smoke alarms? Smoke alarms don’t last forever and need to be changed out every 10 years. You’re not alone, I just learned that too!
With just one to two minutes to escape a fire, new smoke alarms can help protect a lifetime of moments to come. Life is too short to take a risk; that is why we’ve decided it was best to update everything that is outdated, including the important stuff first like smoke alarms. I’ve made a list of what you can start updating today during your home remodel.
Not only will you save money with a smart thermostat but you will be able to control it anywhere from your phone. Also, a smart thermostat will help save you money because if you are not home you can adjust it so it doesn’t run all the time cutting down costs.
Protect the inside and outside of your home by installing a smart security system such as a video doorbell and/or indoor and outdoor cameras. You can watch the cameras and get alerts on your phone while you’re away and get peace of mind knowing that your home is protected.
Fire Safety Products
October is National Fire Prevention Month so now is the time to update those devices that keep your family protected and change them out. Kidde brand makes some great safety products that protect families from the effects of fire, and its related hazards. They’ve been around for over 100 years so you know that their products are well trusted. You can find their products – from fire extinguishers, smoke alarms and other fire safety essentials – at Walmart or The Home Depot.
With the technology today, appliances are getting smarter from small to large. Appliances are now doing things to make our lives easier and are more convenient such as in cooking quicker with less energy, controlling devices with the sound of our voice and more.
To make things easier I’ve created a printable smart home checklist of what to update when renovating your home to make it smarter while making your family feel safer. Print it off and take to the store so you know what to get.
