Reasons Why I'm Excited for Mary Poppins Returns

After 54 years Mary Poppins Returns this Christmas in an all-new sequel with a fresh sensibility that celebrates the spirit of the original film. It’s one of my favorite films and favorite character. I mean I dressed up as Mary Poppin for Halloween and all the kids love it.

I cannot tell you how excited I am for this film.  Well, actually I can tell you…..

Reasons Why I’m Excited for Mary Poppins Returns

The Cast

I was so excited to hear that Emily Blunt was casted as Mary Poppins. First, her British accent fits the part and second she can sing. I remember when I first interviewed her for Into the Woods movie 4 years ago. She was sweet, funny and down to earth. She will actually join Meryl Streep again who plays Topsy Turvy-Poppins, Mary’s eccentric cousin. The rest of the cast is amazing and includes the following.

  • Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack, a lamplighter, and apprentice to Bert
  • Ben Whishaw as Michael Banks
  • Emily Mortimer as Jane Banks
  • Pixie Davies as Annabel Banks
  • Joel Dawson as George Banks
  • Nathanael Saleh as John Banks
  • Julie Walters as Ellen
  • Colin Firth as William Weatherall Wilkins
  • Angela Lansbury as the Balloon Lady
  • David Warner as Admiral Boom
  • Jeremy Swift as Gooding
  • Tarik Frimpong as Angus
  • Dick Van Dyke as Mr. Dawes Jr.

The Music

I think the music is going to be fantastic with Lin-Manuel Miranda on board. I mean Hello Hamilton and Moana. I’m really hoping that Chim Chim Cher-ee, A Spoonful of Sugar and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious make a cameo in Mary Poppins Returns.

The Sequel

After 54 years Mary Poppins finally returns and I cannot wait to see the sequel and watch Mary Poppins help the next generation of the Banks family find the joy and wonder missing in their lives. Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke brought it to life the first time with their great chemistry and I have a feeling it will be just the same with Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda in the sequel. I’m excited to see if the sequel will showcase some pieces from the classic film.

MARY POPPINS RETURNS will be in theatres everywhere on December 25, 2018 so be sure to take the entire family to see it!

Emily Blunt (“The Girl on the Train,” “Into the Woods”) stars as the practically-perfect nanny with unique magical skills who can turn any task into an unforgettable, fantastic adventure and Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Hamilton,” “Moana”) plays her friend Jack, an optimistic street lamplighter who helps bring light—and life—to the streets of London. “Mary Poppins Returns” is directed by Rob Marshall (“Into the Woods,” “Chicago”). The screenplay is by David Magee (“Life of Pi”) and the screen story is by Magee & Marshall & John DeLuca (“Into the Woods”) based upon The Mary Poppins Stories by PL Travers. The film also stars Ben Whishaw (“Spectre”) as Michael Banks; Emily Mortimer (“Hugo”) as Jane Banks; Julie Walters (“Harry Potter” films) as the Banks’ housekeeper Ellen; with Colin Firth (“The King’s Speech”) as Fidelity Fiduciary Bank’s William Weatherall Wilkins; and Meryl Streep (“Florence Foster Jenkins”) as Mary’s eccentric cousin, Topsy and introduces three new Banks’ children played by Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh and newcomer Joel Dawson.
