Incredibles 2 Interview with Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter
It’s been 14 years since the last Incredibles movie and the sequel does not disappoint by any means. Stay tuned for my review on that soon but in the meantime it was a day of press interviews with the cast of Incredibles 2 while I was in LA last week. First up was Craig T. Nelson the voice of Bob Parr and Holly Hunter the voice of Elastagirl. During the interview we talked about getting back into character, working with Brad Bird and more.
On Getting Back Into Character After 14 Years
We asked if it was hard to jump back into character after 14 years and Craig T. Nelson said that it was and was unsure if he could match it vocally because he was doing parenthood. While Holly Hunter said it was easy to get back into the swing of things once she saw Brad Bird across from her as it brought back a familiarity to the scene.
“It’s great for a mother to be fully engaged in something other than parenting.” – Holly Hunter
The Storyline Is Uplifting
Considering everything that is going on in Hollywood right now during the opening of Incredibles 2 is not a bad thing. The storyline is showing two nurturing parents that are capable of doing just about anything and that is great for kids to see. You see the Bob being a stay at home dad and Elstagirl being the breadwinner. Holly Hunter mentions that it’s fantastic and delightful to see Elastigirl living up to this gift that she has without any apology. She just is going for, and losing herself in it, which is a beautiful thing.
“WHY WOULD THEY CHANGE MATH? MATH IS MATH!”
The famous line in the movie quoted from Bob Parr is one that we all as parents can relate to so this question had to be brought up during the interview. When we asked Craig T. Nelson about it he mentioned that he doesn’t understand as a dad, a grandfather or a lot of things at that and questioned why do things have to change.
He also goes on to mention that things have changed in the world and with kids as they are more engaged in technology than talking to each other. He said that the beauty of the film is that you don’t see any of the family into their phones. They are actually engaged with each other such as Bob is trying to
make himself work as a dad, the kids are not going off on him, and nobody’s stuck here.
Brad Bird Had an Audio Chemistry in Mind
The entire cast of Icredibles 2 have great chemistry together. When Brad Bird was casting the original cast he was not thinking of the hot names on the street to be a part of the movie, he was thinking of who would sound right for each character. That is the kind of artist Brad is”, said Holly Hunter.
Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter Just Met 9 Months Ago
Yes, that is something we learned during the interview and even though they did 2 movies together they didn’t actually voice together. Each of the characters are in the sound booths on separate days.
ABOUT THE MOVIE
Everyone’s favorite family of superheroes is back in “Incredibles 2” – but this time Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is in the spotlight, leaving Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell) and Dash (voice of Huck Milner) to navigate the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life. It’s a tough transition for everyone, made tougher by the fact that the family is still unaware of baby Jack-Jack’s emerging superpowers. When a new villain hatches a brilliant and dangerous plot, the family and Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) must find a way to work together again—which is easier said than done, even when they’re all Incredible.
