Disclosure: Disney is providing me with an all expense paid trip to LA to the #IntoTheWoodsEvent and #ABCFamilyEvent featured in this post to facilitate my review. All opinions are 100% mine and not influenced in any way.
Growing up I remember watching Joey Lawrence on Blossom and hearing that famous saying for the first time “Whoa!”. That saying has been accustomed to our household growing up and was said quite often and sometimes to this day. Little did I know that I would actually meet Joey Lawrence in real life someday.
If you watched the People’s Choice Awards last night you may have noticed that Melissa and Joey won a People’s Choice Award for Best Cable Comedy. The new season starts Wednesday, 1/14 at 8:00pm/8:00c on ABC Family. Joey Lawrence plays Joe and becomes the family’s new “manny” also referred to as the male nanny.
Joey walks out to the live audience area where me and 24 other bloggers are sitting. He sits down in the directors chair with a microphone. He starts off asking everyone if they are ready for Christmas. Looking at the microphone he jokingly says that he feels this is a lounge act. Then he says laughing, “Try the veal and tip your waitress”.
He talks about the new season starting Wednesday and how Melissa and Joey are in the honeymoon phase of the show. In case you haven’t seen the show, Mel and Joe just recently got married. He talks about how the new season is going to have lots of sex and arguing and make up sex. “It’s called married life”, says Joey.
Q: We noticed you singing during rehearsal. Do you like to sing on the set?
Joey Lawrence: I like to sing period. I’ve been singing for a while now and working on some new music for the first time.
He is currently working on album with his brothers and their band called Still 3. He says the music is a combination of Cold Play meets Sam Smith. And he is currently talking with Target to sell their album, so be on the lookout for that. He even wrote the theme song for Melissa and Joey.
Joey likes to keep his home and work life private. He wants his kids to grow up living a normal life and not the Hollywood life. He doesn’t take his kids to premiers or post pictures of them on social media. “It’s all about me, my work and my fans, and the relationship that I have with them you know”, says Joey. He doesn’t want to invade his family’s privacy or put them in the limelight.
Q: If you were not acting, what would you be doing?
Joey Lawrence: You know politics has always intrigued me. I think that a lot of it is about communication. It is also about being open-minded and you know being able to hear what other people have to say. I love this country so much and you know even in my lifetime I’ve seen so much change and I think that even more now than ever. We are just going through such a crazy time right now and it frightens me on so many levels. In my opinion, this is still the greatest country in the world.
After we were finished with the interview, he was kind enough to take a group photo and selfie with each of us.
Melissa and Joey will be back on ABC Family Wednesday, 1/14 at 8:00pm/8:00c so be sure to tune in. I was able to watch a preview of the show and it is one you don’t want to miss. Follow along with the hashtag #ABCFamilyEvent for more exclusive photos, behind the scenes, and more.
