I have always wanted to drive a sports car but never had the opportunity. Being a mom of 3, I have the typical “Mom Van” that is by far not the glamorous thing to drive but it’s what you do for your kids. A few weeks ago I had the chance to partner up with Mazda and Drive to test out the new 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Grand Touring model. When this baby arrived in my driveway not only was I oohing and aahing over how tiny it was but ready for an out of this world experience. With just 2 seats this was the perfect opportunity to leave the kids at home and cruise around town with my husband.
While driving the Mazda MX-5 Miata I felt young and free again. This sports car can go 0-60 mph in about 6.5 seconds with a smooth and light feel to it. Some days we had rain but when the weather was nice and the sun was shining we were able to put the top down and let the wind blow our hair. We really had some fun driving around and shifting the gears with the 6-speed manual. We even noticed several people checking it out as we drove it around or parked it in parking lots.
One thing that I loved about the Mazda MX-5 Miata is that it adjusts the volume of the 9-speaker BOSE Audio System automatically when the top is down so you are completely hands-free. And the wind doesn’t really blow that much when you adjust the windows on each side. And if you go over the line a bit in the lane it will give off a warning sign of beeps to keep you alert.
There is not a ton of space which you can expect that in any sports car but still offer a small glove box in between the seats and a trunk. We drove the car everywhere during the week we had and feel like it did not take up much gas as it gets 30MPG. So even when you are going at a faster speed in a split second it won’t eat up your gas.
This car was blast to drive and I really didn’t want to give it back. I was sad to see it leave but am thinking about getting one in the future when the mom car is no longer needed. This vehicle starts at $24,915 but the one I drove that was decked out is $31,015. Visit your local Mazda dealer to test one out for yourself.
