It’s been about a month into the summer and by now we have done most of the items on our summer bucket list. Therefore, the summer boredom is starting to kick in. Trying to find things to do for the kids in the summer can be a challenge.
My son is quite little engineer and is always building something. I can’t tell you how long he has been asking for a robotic arm because he is fascinated by robots. The VEX® Robotics Robotic Arm by HEXBUG® arrived just in time to try out and cure summer boredom. Plus, it is also an educational STEM-based toy that gives kids hands on learning experience, won a 2016 Toy of the Year Award, and requires no batteries. My kind of toy!
After my husband and son built it, it was time to play. The VEX® Robotics Robotic Arm is a completely functional construction kit inspired by real industrial robot arms. The control knobs works with four points of motion so you can use each control knob to pick up surrounding objects with the claw. My son had fun picking up objects around the house with the claw. Now if it could only clean his room. Wishful thinking!
Not only does it pick up objects with the claw but can raise objects up to 14 inches by twisting the “left” hand knob forward and backward. It also extends out to 10 inches by twisting the “right” hand knob forward and backward. The whole crane can also rotate 360 degrees, allowing this miniature robot to perform the complex actions of its real life counterpart.
The kit does have over 350 pieces so it will take several hours to build and will need the help of an adult. Even though it takes some time to build I promise it is worth it in the end. The construction pieces in this kit are also compatible with educational VEX® IQ pieces to create your own custom VEX® robot and explore unlimited possibilities.
You can find the VEX® Robotics Robotic Arm by HEXBUG® at Best Buy for $49.99.
