Skincare Routine in Your 40'sGah! I just turned 40 and my skin is not the same as it was when I was in my 20s. The skin starts to lose elasticity, wrinkles appear out of nowhere and my age spots have seem to multiply. I need to start giving it more attention and keep a daily routine. By doing this I know that I can keep my skin looking younger longer. Having it broken down by morning, night and weekly is a good way to stick to it. This routine is a little different from what you did in your 20s or 30s and requires more steps but will be oh so worth it in the end.

Morning

Cleanse – Wash your face using a non-soap cleanser such as Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser to remove any dirt and oil from your face and towel dry.

Exfoliate – Use a gentle scrub on your face in a circular motion after cleansing to remove dead cells from your face. This will help stimulate the blood circulation and remove impurities.

Toner – Apply toner to a cotton ball and wipe entire face. Some toners may make your face tingle for a few seconds and that is normal if so. Using a toner will help regulate the PH level in your skin.

Serum – Put a few drops of serum into your hands and apply to the face. This will give you a dewy look and add some moisture to your face.

Anti-Aging Moisturizer – Find an anti-aging moisturizer that has collagen in it to help prevent wrinkles and get back some elasticity in your skin.

SPF – Prevent your skin from sun damage by applying SPF daily to your face. I recommend using an SPF of 30 or higher depending on how much you are outside. And if you’re a guy try Neutrogena® Men Triple Protect Face Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 20.

Night

Remove makeup – There are several kinds of makeup remover you can use depending on your preference. I like the Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes as they are easy to use and the makeup comes right off. Whatever method you use, make sure to remove all makeup from face before going to bed. If you don’t wear makeup you can apply toner to your face to remove any oils or dirt.

Night cream – Let the cream do the work overnight by applying a night cream to your face.

Eye cream – Don’t forget about your eyes and prevent crow’s-feet by applying a few drops of eye cream around the eye every night.

8 hours of sleep – Try to get 8 hours of sleep every night so you are well rested.

Weekly

Steam – Fill up the sink with hot water and apply a towel over your head and getting your face close to the hot water without touching it. Let the steam open the pores.

Mask – Find a mask that is right for your skin and apply to the face weekly. Your face will thank you for doing so.
