Kyle MacLachlan a recognizable face from “Agents of Shields”, “Twin Peaks” and other hit shows plays the voice of Dad in Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out. I got the chance to interview him with 24 other bloggers in LA. Find out what inspired him to take this role and how it relates to him in the interview below.
Q: What emotion would you be?
Kyle MacLachlan: I think Joy would be me. I would put that underneath the silliness just because that’s just my kind of nature. And you know, the rest of them would be secondary.
Q: So as a Dad yourself, how much of the Character is you?
Kyle MacLachlan: It was fun playing Dad because being a Dad myself, I was able to bring a little bit of my relationship with my son in and try different things. Some — some worked, most didn’t but it’s always good to throw some ideas out there.
Q: Has being a Dad shaped the way you take on new roles?
Kyle MacLachlan: Definitely I think. It’s added another dimension of consideration, you know. How is this gonna affect my family both in my being around or not being around and also just, is it something that I’m comfortable putting out there? Do I want to carry whatever remnants of that work environment back home with me, you know. Um, I’m not one of those people who sort of does that, clings to stuff, that needs to be engaged in the part
Q: What’s the strangest thing you had on Pizza?
Kyle MacLachlan: Well 2 point answer. I like the Canadian Bacon Pineapple topping. But the more interesting answer, when I was in a Marine Biology Camp and we had to make Dinner based on the ingredients we found in water. And so we made Pizza with a variety of different Molusks and things on top of the Pizza. It was one of the weirdest things but funny.
Q: What do you think the Audience of Dads will take away from this?
Kyle MacLachlan: I think just giving your kids a little bit of space to figure it out would be good and connect with your kids. Ask questions such as, “Do you want to talk about it?” And you realize with kids, a lot of it is about timing. So you have to talk to them when they’re ready. You have to engage them when they’re ready even if it’s the 4th quarter of the football game.
Inside Out is in theaters everywhere and a great movie for the whole family to see.
